The Los Angeles Chargers are reeling from a string of major injuries that have derailed their early-season momentum. Multiple offensive starters are now sidelined, leaving quarterback Justin Herbert and the offense scrambling to adjust.

RB Omarion Hampton — IR (Ankle)

Rookie running back Omarion Hampton was placed on injured reserve after suffering an ankle injury late in the Chargers’ 27–10 loss to the Washington Commanders in Week 5. The first-round pick appeared to get tripped by linebacker Frankie Luvu on a fourth-and-2 play midway through the third quarter and came up limping.

Hampton did not return to the game and was later seen leaving the stadium in a walking boot on his left foot. The team officially placed him on IR on Monday, meaning he will miss at least four games. By video, Pro Football Doc believes Hampton sustained a right ankle eversion sprain, a high-ankle variant that is not season-ending and does not require surgery. He also expects Hampton to return after his four-week IR stint.

This marks another blow to a Chargers rushing attack that was already struggling to find rhythm behind a patchwork offensive line.

RB Najee Harris — Out for Season (Torn Achilles)

Running back Najee Harris was lost for the season after suffering a torn Achilles tendon in Week 3. The veteran back had been splitting carries with Hampton and brought a physical edge to the offense. His injury leaves the Chargers relying heavily on backup and practice squad options for the foreseeable future.

LT Rashawn Slater — Out for Season (Ruptured Patellar Tendon)

Star left tackle Rashawn Slater suffered a ruptured patellar tendon during training camp, ending his season before it began. Slater’s absence has been devastating for the Chargers’ protection schemes, forcing rookie Joe Alt and others to rotate across multiple positions.

RT Joe Alt — High Ankle Sprain

Right tackle Joe Alt, who had been moved to left tackle in Slater’s absence, suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 4 against the New York Giants. He missed the Week 5 matchup versus the Commanders but has not been placed on injured reserve, an encouraging sign that the team expects him back within the next few weeks.

Alt’s absence, however, has contributed to significant protection issues for Justin Herbert, who has faced 81 QB pressures in the last three games.

RG Mekhi Becton — Hand / Concussion

Offensive lineman Mekhi Becton exited Sunday’s loss after injuring his hand. He previously missed Week 4 with a concussion, and now faces the possibility of missing additional time heading into Week 6.

With Becton banged up and Alt sidelined, the Chargers could be down to their third left tackle, second right guard, and second right tackle next week — a cluster of injuries that has severely weakened one of the NFL’s most promising offensive fronts entering the season.
