The Boca Raton Bowl will be played at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday between Liberty (8-5) and Toledo (8-4). 3.5 points favor the Toledo Rockets by FanDuel Sportsbook. The matchup will be played at the FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, FL. But, in this matchup, there is a question of whether Toledo QB Dequan Finn and Liberty QB Kaidon Salter will be fully healthy.
Finn suffered an ankle injury that caused him to miss the team’s next game. He would return on November 8th but appeared to be hobbled by the ankle injury. He would combine for two yards in the next two games on only 10 carries.
But, in the MAC title game, Finn seemed to be trending towards being like himself before the injury. He ran the ball 18 times for 86 yards. But he has yet to break a 20-yard run and have a game on par with his season average before the injury of 5.9 yards per carry.
The Rockets will need Finn’s dual-threat ability to beat a healthy Liberty.
Finn’s backup, Tucker Gleason, has gotten a lot of snaps during Gleason’s time out. But he completed 47.5% of his passes and has a 36.8 QBR.
Liberty University lost Salter in late November to groin surgery. The injury had been hobbling him since he aggravated the muscle in September. He would miss multiple games in October before returning in November.
But, throughout November, he would rush for 16 yards on 18 carries. After beginning the season with three games of over 64 yards rushing on at least 4.7 yards per carry.
Salter is ruled as probable to play against Toledo, according to ESPN. But don’t be surprised if there is a lot of backup QB Johnathan Bennett in the game. Bennett is the team’s leader in passing yards and touchdowns. Bennett would play a lot in the games that Salter was out or hobbled. Bennett has four games this season with over 200 yards passing, while Salter has two.
So, whoever Liberty starts at quarterback will give them a shot to upset Toledo.
Liberty vs.Toledo Odds
