Karl-Anthony Towns Injury: Wolves Star Helped Off Floor With Apparent Calf Strain

The Timberwolves ruled out All-NBA big man Karl-Anthony Towns with a non-contact right calf strain after he was helped into the locker room by Rudy Gobert and team trainers.

Towns grabbed fell to the ground and grabbed at his right calf after he pushed off racing back on defense with 5:25 left in the third quarter.

Towns appeared to suffer a right calf strain, not the dreaded Achilles tendon rupture, but will likely miss multiple weeks if not all of December, according to the Pro Basketball Docs.

The eccentric loading injury mechanism is often associated with an Achilles tendon rupture but can also apply to a calf strain, as with Kevin Durant, Luka Doncic, and Damian Lillard in recent years.

The length of his absence will depend on the severity of the strain discovered by the MRI.

The 27-year-old has averaged 21.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 5.4 assists on 62.9% true shooting in his first season with Gobert.

Towns reportedly underwent platelet-rich plasma and stem cell injections in both knees, an ankle, a wrist, and a finger last May to address multiple lingering injuries without surgery.
