New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields left Sunday’s game to be evaluated for a potential concussion after taking a hit that left him shaken up on the field. He was brought down on and the back of his head hit field with significant force. Fields was escorted to the medical tent before being taken to the locker room for further testing, and his return to action remains uncertain pending the league’s concussion protocol.
By rule, Fields will have to undergo a full sideline assessment that includes symptom checks, balance testing, and cognitive evaluation. If there are any concerning signs, he will be ruled out for the rest of the contest. Even in the best-case scenario, a concussion diagnosis would sideline him for at least the remainder of today’s game, and recovery timelines can vary depending on symptom severity and how quickly he clears the NFL’s five-step return-to-play concussion protocol.
