Josh Allen Listed as Questionable But Unlikely to Play Against Vikings

Bills star quarterback Josh Allen is listed as questionable for the Week 10 contest against the Vikings.

Although Allen’s elbow injury is definitely not season-ending, he will likely miss multiple weeks with the ailment, according to our panel of doctors with decades of experience as NFL head team physicians.

On Monday, the Pro Football Docs detailed why Allen would likely miss at least this week.

The 26-year-old mobile quarterback suffered a sprain (partial tear) of his ulnar collateral ligament in last week’s loss to the Jets. If he plays before that tear is fully healed, there is a risk that could turn into a full tear.

Buffalo is unlikely to risk that with their star quarterback and it may take up to three weeks for his partial tear to heal to a place where he doesn’t risk further damage.

Allen also reportedly has lingering nerve issues in his elbow, which prevents him from gripping the ball properly.

With nerve issues, if it lasts more than a minute it usually takes days to resolve. If it lasts more than a day, it typically takes weeks to resolve.

The Bills (6-2) also have no reason to rush him back before he’s fully recovered. Case Keenum is a suitable back-up quarterback and can lead the team through the next three weeks against the Vikings, Browns and Lions.

Buffalo faces two divisional opponents back-to-back in Week 13 (Patriots) and Week 14 (Jets). Those are likely realistic targets for Allen’s return. When he suffered a UCL sprain during his rookie season in 2018, he missed four games.

Buffalo Bills Super Bowl LVII Odds

The Bills currently have the best odds to win Super Bowl LVII at +330, followed by the Eagles at +500 and the Chiefs at +550, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
