Update: The veteran 49ers quarterback has been ruled out with a foot injury and reportedly underwent X-rays.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was carted to the locker room after suffering an apparent left ankle injury on a sack in the first quarter.
By video, the veteran quarterback appeared to have his left ankle landed on by Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips and appeared to suffer a left high ankle sprain, according to the Pro Football Docs.
He was able to walk off the field, then was carted to the locker room. The 31-year-old was deemed questionable to return with an ankle injury.
Garoppolo entered the game with a left knee MCL sprain. The combination of both makes him unlikely to return to the game and could put his Week 14 status in doubt.
The 49ers passer suffered a right high ankle sprain in Week 2, 2020. He returned in Week 5, then reaggravated the injury in Week 8 and missed the rest of the season.
This season, Garoppolo had 2,381 yards with 16 touchdowns and 4 interceptions entering Week 13. He has started 9 games after replacing second-year quarterback Trey Lance, who suffered an ankle fracture in Week 2.
Brock Purdy has entered the game at quarterback.
