Jets' Mekhi Becton Leaves Practice With Right Knee Injury

New York Jets right tackle Mekhi Becton left Monday's practice with an apparent right knee injury.

The Pro Football Docs believe this right knee injury is related to the knee injury he suffered last season.

Becton will likely miss weeks with the injury and his status for Week 1 is in doubt.

Mekhi Becton Injury Update

The 23-year-old 2020 first-round draft pick went down on a run play, but video was limited to a fan's cellphone. From the distanced view it's difficult to tell the exact mechanism, but given his past right knee injury troubles it's safe to assume this one is related.

Head coach Robert Salah told reporters after practice that Becton's knee is “stable,” but he will get an MRI to determine the severity.

Becton was already limping on his right leg early in practice. In mid-July, the Pro Football Docs detailed why his lingering right knee injury necessitated a move to the right side.

He has arthritis in his right knee related to last season's injury and was assigned a SIC score of 74 for the season because of those lingering issues.

The Louisville product faces an uphill battle to be effective this season and his arthritis will likely bother him throughout the year.

Max Mitchell, Chuma Edoga and Parker Ferguson will compete for the Jets' backup right tackle spot in the preseason. One of those will likely be pushed into action Week 1.

Same right knee for #MehkiBecton. @SICscore thoughts from last month. sicscore.com/nfl/updates/je… Wish we didn't have to rely on distanced fan video.
