UPDATE: The Giants ruled Dart OUT for the second half.
New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart suffered a left knee injury during Monday Night Football against the Los Angeles Rams.
Dart was hit as he released a deep pass and immediately grabbed his left knee. He required medical attention on the field before eventually getting to his feet and walking off under his own power.
Pro Football Doc on Jaxson Dart's Knee Injury
Based on video analysis, Pro Football Doc does not believe Dart suffered a season-ending ACL tear and instead expressed significant concern for an MCL sprain.
“The immediate worry is an ACL tear. Let me start with good news. I do not believe that he tore his ACL,” Pro Football Doc said.
Pro Football Doc explained that Dart's foot being off the ground when he was hit may have prevented the mechanism from causing an ACL tear. He believes Dart likely suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain, although an MRI will be needed to determine the severity.
Dart was able to walk to the locker room under his own power, and Pro Football Doc does not expect the injury to be a fracture or require surgery.
He also does not expect Dart to return Monday night because the MCL injury would likely create instability and significantly limit the quarterback's mobility.
Pro Football Doc anticipates Dart's recovery will be measured in weeks rather than months, with an early estimate of around four weeks.
“The expectation is that this is not season-ending,” Pro Football Doc said. “An MRI will be incoming.”
