Grizzlies' star point guard Ja Morant had to be assisted off the court on Friday after he suffered a left ankle sprain with 3:09 left in the fourth quarter of their win.
Morant previously suffered a left ankle sprain in December 2020 and had to be taken off the floor in a wheelchair.
The 23-year-old missed eight games – about three weeks – and played in 60 of the final 61 games of the season after his return.
Morant has gone down hard several times in his young career including twice last season, once for a non-contact left knee sprain in November and once for hip cramps in February.
The defending MIP had 17 points, seven rebounds, and 11 assists before his injury on Friday and came in with averaged of 29.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 6.8 assists in 13 games.
