Is Jaxon Smith-Njigba In Line for a Breakout Season?

On the final day of the Seattle Seahawks mini-camp, wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba left practice early due to a shoulder injury. Head Coach Mike Macdonald subsequently canceled the final day of practice, preventing Smith-Njigba from returning to the field.

At SIC Score, we believe there is no major concern regarding Smith-Njigba's readiness for training camp. “I think he nicked his shoulder a little bit, so we just played it safe,” Macdonald explained. We expect him to be fully cleared and ready to participate on day one of camp.

Looking Ahead to the 2024 Season

Smith-Njigba could be a potential sleeper pick for the 2024 season. Currently listed as Seattle’s #3 wide receiver behind DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, Smith-Njigba showed promise during his rookie season. He played in all 17 games, recording 63 catches for 628 yards and four touchdowns.

With Geno Smith entering his third season as the Seahawks' starting quarterback and the team’s first season under new offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, Smith-Njigba’s role could expand. His ability to capitalize on opportunities and build on his rookie season statistics will be crucial for the Seahawks' offensive success. If he can stay healthy and continue developing, Smith-Njigba could be a significant contributor to Seattle's offense in 2024.
