How Close is Myles Garrett To Returning From Injuries Suffered in Car Crash?

Cleveland Browns star defensive end Myles Garrett reportedly suffered a shoulder sprain and a biceps strain in a single-car crash Monday night.

Based on pictures of the car and descriptions of the accident, it is fantastic news that he came away with only those injuries and has reportedly passed concussion protocol.

Even so, Garrett is a long shot to play this week against the Falcons, according to the Pro Football Docs. He may have a realistic chance to return in Week 5 against the Chargers, depending on the severity of the shoulder sprain.

The 26-year-old defender was released from the hospital the same day of the crash, which was reportedly caused when he swerved to avoid an animal and “overcorrected” on a wet road.

His car reportedly went off the right side of the road and flipped multiple times before stopping. He and a female passenger in the car were both taken to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries

The three-time Pro Bowler entered Week 3 with a neck strain he appeared to suffer in Week 2. It’s encouraging to hear he did not further damage his neck in the crash, but it will still likely factor into how quick he can return.

Garrett has 7 total tackles and 3 sacks in 3 games this season.

He did not practice Wednesday, but reportedly plans to be at the team facility on Thursday. The shoulder, neck and biceps are key to a pass rusher’s ability to get past an offensive lineman, thus the Browns will likely not rush Garrett back before he has full strength in his upper body.

If Garrett misses the game, the Browns could be down two key pass rushers against the Falcons.

Jadeveon Clowney suffered a right ankle sprain in Week 2 and missed Week 3. He also did not practice Wednesday and the Pro Football Docs would be surprised to see him suit up against Atlanta.

Browns vs. Falcons Week 3 Odds

Cleveland is favored by 1.5 points on the road in Atlanta this week and the over/under is 49.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

The Browns (2-1) are +340 to win the AFC North, trailing the Ravens at -120 and the Bengals at +290. Garrett is +600 to win AP Defensive Player of the Year, trailing only Micah Parsons at +250.
