Dennis Schroder Injury: Lakers PG Suffers Ankle Sprain, Returns to Game

Update: Schröder returned in the second half but was clearly hobbled. Overnight swelling could be an issue, but its a good sign he returned and played well.

Los Angeles Lakers guard Dennis Schröder exited in the second quarter against the Timberwolves after suffering a left ankle injury.

By video, the speedy ballhandler suffered an inversion left ankle sprain when he stepped on the foot of teammate D'Angelo Russell.

Schröder remained in briefly, but hobbled to the bench at the next stoppage.

The injury appeared low-grade, but Schröder is still unlikely to return to the matchup given his quick play style.

If the Lakers advance to a playoff series, he has a good chance to rejoin the lineup in limited fashion but – if the Lakers lose – Friday might be too soon of a turnaround for him to be effective.

The good news for Schröder and the Lakers is that this isn't the first time he's injured the ankle. Given his previous history of ankle sprains, this injury likely did not cause much new damage and he should only require a short-term absence.

He sprained the same ankle in early March and did not miss time. Schröder also sprained the same ankle in October 2017 while with the Hawks.
