Updates: Fox told reporters Tuesday he plans to play through his finger injury in Game 5. Read our updated analysis here.
Sacramento Kings star guard De’Aaron Fox will likely miss Wednesday’s pivotal Game 5 matchup after he was diagnosed with a fracture on the tip of his left index finger.
By video, Fox suffered the injury with four-and-a-half minutes remaining in the fourth quarter of Game 4, but finished the game.
The tip fracture is better than at the base of his finger, but Fox will struggle to be effective handling the ball and shooting until the injury is fully healed, according to the Pro Basketball Docs.
He likely will not require surgery, but will have to play with a protective covering if he’s active.
Given the importance of the index finger, taping it together with the middle finger is not an effective option, according to the Pro Basketball Docs.
Fox will be listed as doubtful initially, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, and the Pro Basketball Docs do not expect he will be available in Game 5.
His chances to be available in Game 6 are slightly improved, but still not greater than 50%.
Fox has averaged 31.5 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds in the first four playoff games of his career.
He is shooting 44.7% from the field and 34.2% from 3-point range.
Sacramento went 4-5 without Fox during the regular season.
The Warriors are favored by 4 points on the road in Game 5 and the over/under is 233, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
After being down 2-0 in the series, Golden State is -270 to win the series while the Kings are +220.
