San Antonio Spurs starting guard De’Aaron Fox missed Game 1 of the Western Conference finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder because of a right ankle sprain, leaving his Game 2 status uncertain.

Fox had his ankle rolled on during Game 5 against the Minnesota Timberwolves but returned to play in Game 6, finishing with 21 points in 24 minutes. Before Game 1, he participated in morning shootaround and was on the court 90 minutes before tipoff, but he was ultimately ruled out.

Pro Football Doc Analysis

The Spurs have not revealed many specifics on the injury, simply listing Fox with ankle soreness.

Pro Football Doc said the injury appears to be a mild high ankle sprain, not a typical basketball inversion ankle sprain. That helps explain why Fox missed Game 1 and could miss another game, but Pro Football Doc still expects him to return during the series.

Spurs Game 1 Impact

San Antonio beat Oklahoma City 115-112 in double overtime despite playing without Fox.

Dylan Harper replaced Fox in the starting lineup and played 47 minutes, finishing with 24 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists.

Fox entered Monday averaging 18.8 points and 5.8 assists in a team-leading 33.3 minutes per game for the Spurs this postseason.

Bottom Line

Fox’s Game 2 status remains uncertain, but Pro Football Doc expects him to return during the Western Conference finals. The key will be how the ankle responds over the next 48 hours, especially if this is a mild high ankle sprain rather than a routine ankle roll.

Game 2 is on Wednesday in Oklahoma City.
