Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard has been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in his right calf, a condition involving a blood clot that can pose serious health risks if untreated. The team announced Lillard, 34, is currently on blood-thinning medication, and the clot has been stabilized.
According to our Pro Docs, Lillard is likely to be sidelined for the remainder of the season. For many patients, blood thinner treatment after a blood clot typically lasts at least 3 months, but the duration can vary based on the cause and individual risk factors, with some needing longer or even indefinite treatment. Lillard isn’t the first NBA star to be shut down due to DVT this season. The San Antonio Spurs shelved rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama in February after he was diagnosed with a similar condition in his right shoulder.
The news comes at a critical time for the Bucks, who have just 11 games remaining in the regular season as they gear up for a postseason push. On the season, Lillard is averaging 24.9 points per game and leads the team with 7.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
