Damar Hamlin Cleared for Football Activities

Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane announced the best possible scenario for Damar Hamlin is coming true.

At a news conference ahead of OTAs Beane told reporters that Hamlin has been cleared to resume full football activities, just three months after he collapsed and had to be resuscitated on the field.

Hamlin has seen at least three specialists, most recently on Friday, and all were in agreement that the Bills safety could safely return to play, Beane said.

“He’s fully cleared, he’s here … he’s in a great headspace to come back,” Beane told reporters.

From the beginning, the Pro Football Docs have been cautious about projecting his return to play. However, the night of the incident Dr. David Chao did break down why the early news was positive surrounding Hamlin.

Not long after he was discharged from the hospital, Chao said Hamlin would have a choice to make regarding a return to football and his medical situation likely would not rule out a return to play.

It’s great to see that reality has come true and all credit belongs to the Bills’ medical staff and first responders who aided Hamlin on Jan. 2 against the Bengals.

There’s no doubt the quick actions of first responders on that day saved his life and helped forge this path back to the NFL.

Hamlin’s case, while rare, is a great reminder of why AED devices and athletic trainers should be mandatory at all youth sporting events.
