As the 2025 NFL season hits a critical stretch, Dallas Cowboys (6-5-1) travel to Ford Field to take on the Detroit Lions (7-5) in a high-stakes Thursday Night Football showdown.
Both squads are battling through injuries - and their availability will play a major role in who gains an edge in the NFC playoff race. Here's how things stack up heading into Week 14.
Game Overview
The Cowboys, coming off a dramatic Thanksgiving win over the Kansas City Chiefs, aim to build momentum heading into the season’s home stretch. Meanwhile, the Lions - playing at home - see this as a major opportunity to pad their playoff resume. With the betting lines slightly favoring Detroit (spread ~-3) and a projected total of 54.5 points, bookmakers expect a shootout.
Despite Detroit’s dominance over Dallas in recent meetings, Dallas enters this game with renewed offensive balance and a defense that has shown resilience.

What to Watch - Key Matchups & Storylines
Can Detroit’s backup receiving corps step up? With St. Brown and Raymond sidelined, players like Jameson Williams, Tom Kennedy and Isaac TeSlaa could be in for heavy volume. If they make plays, Detroit may still pose problems.
Will Detroit’s offensive line hold up against Dallas’ pass rush? With Decker and Glasgow limited, Detroit may struggle to protect their QB or establish the run - giving Dallas an opportunity to disrupt the Lions’ rhythm.
Can Dallas get enough protection and pressure to tilt field position? If Clowney or Guyton misses the game, or if the Cowboys’ O-line falters, this could open the door for Detroit to control time of possession - but that mostly hangs on Detroit’s banged-up front surviving against Dallas’ front seven.
Final Thoughts
This Week 14 matchup may come down to which team’s injured players show up - and which backups step up. On paper, the Cowboys have a slight edge given Detroit’s injuries on both offense and defense, especially at key spots like wide receiver and offensive tackle.
The Cowboys could steal a road win and move closer to a Wild Card berth. But if Detroit’s revolving cast of receivers and offensive linemen manage to hold together, and their defense stiffens - despite missing names - the Lions could prove too tough at home.
Expect a high-scoring, chaotic affair that hinges on endurance and depth.
