Update: Hardman has been placed on IR, knocking him out of the next 4 games.
Kansas City Chiefs wideouts JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman did not practice for a second straight day Thursday, leaving both as long shots to play this week against the Chargers.
Smith-Schuster is in concussion protocol after a hit from Jaguars safety Andre Cisco in last week's victory.
The former Steelers pass catcher is dealing with his fourth career concussion, which could require more time than usual to recover from. Through Week 9, 22.8% of players have cleared concussion protocol to play in the next game.
Hardman missed last week with an undisclosed abdomen issue.
It's possible that both play, but they will need to log limited practices on Friday.
Smith-Schuster needs to show a progression through practice, then get clearance from an unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant. That could happen Saturday at the latest, but he would need to log a limited practice Friday then a full practice on Saturday.
If Smith-Schuster and Hardman are out this week, it could mean increased opportunities for Kadarius Toney.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling is dealing with an illness, but appears on track to play this week.
The Chiefs are favored by 6 points on the road against the Chargers and the over/under is 51.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
