Giants running back Cam Skattebo felt something in his hamstring on the longest run of his career in overtime of Sunday’s 27-21 win over the Texans. Skattebo broke a 42-yard run through the Houston defense that set up Devin Singletary’s game-winning touchdown, and it looked like he had room for more before he slid to a stop at the Houston 30-yard line. The slide appeared intentional at first, but Skattebo told ESPN’s Dan Graziano that he went down because of his hamstring. The Giants have not announced a diagnosis or a timeline.

The timing could be helpful for New York. The Giants have a bye in Week 8, and their next game is a Week 9 trip to Philadelphia, which gives Skattebo roughly two weeks to recover before facing the Eagles. A mild hamstring strain typically costs a week or two, while a more significant tear can mean several weeks, and the way he left the field suggests the team may be able to treat it conservatively. The Giants lead the NFC East, so keeping him healthy for the divisional stretch matters.

The hamstring adds to a lower-body history that already includes a major setback. On October 26, 2025, in Week 8 at Philadelphia, Skattebo suffered a gruesome right leg injury (a dislocated ankle, a fractured fibula, and a ruptured deltoid ligament) when he was twisted to the ground on a catch attempt. He was carted off in an air cast, had emergency surgery that night, and went on injured reserve for the season, a rehab that kept him in a boot for eight weeks and was just completed in time for training camp. He left an August 7 practice early favoring his left leg after a collision with rookie linebacker Arvell Reese but was reported to be fine.

Skattebo’s season has had other bumps. He has fumbled four times this year and was benched for the Week 6 loss to the Saints, finishing with zero touches before returning to a featured role today. Backup Najee Harris and Singletary are available if Skattebo is limited. The key signals are the Giants’ injury update this week, whether he is cleared to practice after the bye, and how he looks when New York travels to Philadelphia on November 8.
