Seattle Seahawks wideout Cade Johnson was transported to a hospital on Thursday after suffering a neck injury during the second quarter of the first preseason game.
His last involvement came on a kick return with just over 11:30 left in the second quarter. After the game, head coach Pete Carroll told reporters Johnson was injured on that hit.
Johnson appeared wobbly when he stood up after the hit, then was examined in the medical tent before he was immobilized and transported to a hospital on a stretcher.
He had full movement of his extremities, but was diagnosed with a concussion, according to Carroll.
Caution is always the best practice when it comes to head and neck injuries. Each season, numerous players suffer concussions and related neck injuries.
Typically, they are transported to a hospital out of precaution and this appears to be another case.
Johnson had two yards on one carry early in the game and also had two targets.
The third-year receiver out of South Dakota State was striving to be a key reserve, a role he had grown into late last season.
