BYU vs. Notre Dame: Will injuries decide the Shamrock Series?

BYU Injury Report:

The Shamrock Series is a game between two independent universities. Notre Dame leads the series 6-2 over BYU. But, this time, BYU comes into the game as the only ranked opponent. Nevertheless, many questionable players could change the game’s fate.

BYU offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick said he’s hopeful star receiver Puka Nacua is ready to play versus Notre Dame. Nacua has faced various injuries since he suffered a hamstring injury at the start of fall camp. He suffered a high ankle sprain against USF that kept him from playing in the team’s next two matchups. When he returned, he suffered another injury that kept him out last week. The injuries just kept piling up for Nacua.

Three defensive linemen enter the Shamrock Series with a questionable tag on if they’re going to play. Gabe Summers partially tore his PCL in week one but was able to play the next three games. Nevertheless, last week was the first game he missed this season. Blake Mangelson was wearing a boot on his left foot at the game last week. Joshua Larsen was on crutches during the team’s game against Wyoming.

Running Back Miles Davis suffered a non-contact injury during last week’s game, and his status is unknown going into this week.

Starting safety, Malik Moore suffered a broken hand two weeks ago and has been ruled out for this week. When Moore returns, he will likely have to wear a cast on his hand until the injury is fully healed.

Masen Wake is expected to be back this week after missing the team’s last game against Utah State because he was in concussion protocol.

Notre Dame Injury Report:

The Fighting Irish have been dealt a heavy blow of season-ending injuries this season, and it’s hurt their chances of living up to their preseason hype.

Wide receiver Avery Davis was supposed to be the team’s number-one option going into the season. But, a torn ACL ended his season before he had a chance to prove he could be a go-to receiver.

The team faced a plethora of tight-end injuries. Backup tight end Mitchell Evans is out indefinitely with a foot injury. Backup tight end Kevin Baumann is out for the season with a torn ACL, and Backup tight end Cane Berrong is questionable with a knee injury.

Starting quarterback Tyler Buchner was supposed to be one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the country. The expectation was for him to leap this season. He started the season terribly and injured his shoulder before the schedule became more manageable. This injury ended his season early.

Due to a targeting call, linebacker, JD Bertrand will miss the first half of the team’s game against BYU.

BYU vs. Notre Dame Odds:

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are favored by 3.5 points, and the over/under is 50.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
