Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young left Sunday’s Week 7 game at MetLife Stadium in the fourth quarter after suffering an apparent right ankle injury on a sack, and was ruled questionable to return before ultimately leaving for the remainder of the contest. Young walked to the locker room and was noticeably favoring the ankle as the team evaluated him on the sideline.

By video, the injury occurred on the final play of a Panthers possession when Young was brought down on a sack after attempting to spin out of pressure. Replays posted to social media show his foot being planted awkwardly and then limping off.

Young has a history with ankle trouble. Early in his NFL career he was held out of a walkthrough with an ankle issue in 2023 and was monitored after that episode. That injury did end up being a minor, but could inform his recovery of this current ankle injury.

There has been no indication yet that this is a long-term structural injury, but Carolina will likely take a cautious approach with a young QB who relies on mobility. If Young is not cleared to play next week the plan would be to hand the offense to Andy Dalton, who has served as the team’s experienced backup and has resumed that role under Carolina’s current roster construction.
