Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. headed to the locker room in the first half of Sunday's opener against the Browns after appearing to injure his shoulder, a troubling development for a Jacksonville offense that had raced out to a 17-0 lead behind Trevor Lawrence's two first-quarter touchdown passes. Thomas entered the day with a clean injury report, but the shoulder has been a recurring trouble spot dating back through training camp, and any recurrence will draw immediate scrutiny given how much offseason attention it already received.
This marks at least the third notable shoulder scare of Thomas's young career. Most recently, he went down on his left shoulder during an August 25 joint practice with the Buccaneers, landing hard after a touchdown catch and getting pulled for the rest of that session before working his way back to full participation in time for Week 1. Before that, he battled right shoulder issues for stretches of the 2025 season, including an injury suffered in Jacksonville's Week 7 loss to the Rams in London that limited his practice reps in the weeks that followed. He also dealt with a minor shoulder bruise coming out of the 2025 offseason program.
The shoulder joins a broader injury history that has chipped away at Thomas's availability since his standout 2024 rookie season. He missed three straight games in 2025 (Weeks 10-12) with a high ankle sprain, played through a wrist injury early that season, was listed questionable with a chest injury ahead of a matchup with the Vikings, and exited the 2025 regular-season finale for a concussion evaluation before being cleared. Across it all, Thomas has still managed to stay on the field for the bulk of his snaps in most weeks, but the pattern of upper-body issues — shoulder, wrist, chest — is now a real thread in his medical file heading into just his third pro season.
If Thomas can't return, expect Jacksonville to lean further on Parker Washington, who already has a 30-yard touchdown grab in this one, along with Jakobi Meyers and rookie tight end contributions to sustain the passing attack. Fantasy managers who started Thomas today will want to monitor his return-to-play status closely before locking in any Week 2 decisions.
