(Update: Ingram is listed as doubtful for Game 7 vs. the Cavs)

Brandon Ingram has been listed as doubtful for Game 6 of the first-round NBA playoff series against the Cleveland Cavaliers, a troubling development for a team facing elimination pressure. While the official designation lists the issue as a foot and heel injury, video from recent action suggests the problem may stem from the plantar fascia, a painful band of tissue along the bottom of the foot that can significantly limit movement and explosiveness.

If that diagnosis is accurate, it would explain both the doubtful tag and the hesitation to clear him. Plantar fascia injuries are notoriously difficult to play through, especially in the postseason when every possession demands quick cuts, hard stops, and constant push-off power. Even if Ingram suits up, he would likely be far from full strength.

The biggest concern would be functionality on both ends of the floor. Offensively, Ingram’s game depends heavily on creating separation, rising into pull-up jumpers, and attacking from the midrange. A compromised plantar fascia can make pushing off the affected foot extremely difficult, taking away rhythm and lift. Defensively, lateral movement and sustained effort can also suffer, making it harder to stay in front of Cleveland’s perimeter creators.

There is also a longer-term risk. Attempting to play through a plantar fascia injury can sometimes lead to a full rupture, which in some cases relieves pain but creates its own recovery timeline and instability concerns. With that in mind, Ingram appears unlikely to play unless the situation becomes desperate. If he does give it a try, expectations should be tempered, as it would be difficult for him to perform anywhere near his usual level in such a physically demanding setting.
