Avalanche Defenseman Samuel Girard Out For Playoffs With Broken Sternum

The Colorado Avalanche won Game 3 over the St. Louis Blues, but lost a key defenseman for the remainder of the playoffs.

Samuel Girard Injury Update

Samuel Girard left Game 3 in the first period after a check by Blues forward Ivan Barbashev behind the Avalanche net.

After the game, Colorado coach Jared Bednar told reporters Girard suffered a broken sternum on the hit.

Girard plays major minutes on the Avalanche's second defensive line. His speed and scoring threat as a defender will be difficult to replace.

The 24-year-old scored five goals and had 28 points for the Avalanche this regular season. Girard was averaging 20:49 time on the ice in the playoffs and had three points.

Avalanche Stanley Cup Odds

Up 2-1 in the series, Colorado is -800 to win the series and are the current favorites to win the Stanley Cup at +175.
