(UPDATE: Anthony Edwards played in Game 1. He came off the bench, played 25 minutes and scored 18 points)
Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards is listed as questionable for Game 1 against the San Antonio Spurs in Round 2 as he continues to recover from a left knee hyperextension and bone bruise.
Edwards suffered the injury in Game 4 of the Timberwolves’ first-round series against the Denver Nuggets on April 25. Game 1 against the Spurs comes just nine days after the injury.
Anthony Edwards Knee Injury
Edwards injured his left knee while attempting a block against the Nuggets. The hyperextension resulted in a bone bruise, which can be difficult to manage because pain, swelling, and stiffness often depend on how the knee responds to activity.
The encouraging sign for Minnesota is that Edwards went through light on-court work over the weekend, traveled with the Timberwolves to San Antonio on Sunday, and was cleared for basketball activities ahead of Monday morning’s shootaround.
Pro Football Doc Medical Analysis
Pro Football Doc said last week that a hyperextension with a bone bruise is typically measured in weeks, not days.
“Hyperextension with a bone bruise — is it two weeks? Is it four weeks? It’s measured in more than one week,” Pro Football Doc said. “So it’s weeks, not days. Could he come back in Round 2? Maybe. Round 3 becomes likely. That’s his timetable, Anthony Edwards.”
ESPN reported that Edwards could return as early as Game 3 and if not then Game 4. Pro Football Doc called that timeline "optimistic not impossible."
Bottom Line
Edwards appears to be making progress after his left knee hyperextension and bone bruise, but Game 1 comes only nine days after the injury. His questionable status suggests he has a chance to play, though Pro Football Doc’s initial timeline points to a recovery measured in weeks rather than days. Even if Edwards suits up, his movement, explosiveness and workload will be key signs to watch.
