Anthony Davis Avoids Surgery but Faces Extended Absence

(UPDATE 2/14/25: Daniel Gafford will sit out at least six weeks because of a Grade 3 sprain of the MCL in his right knee)

The Dallas Mavericks have suffered a major setback, as newly acquired star Anthony Davis is expected to miss several weeks due to a left adductor strain. Fortunately, multiple reports confirm the belief from our panel of Pro Basketball Docs that Davis will not require surgery. Our Pro Basketball Docs believe Davis will return before the playoffs begin but expect the Mavericks to be cautious, as the injury is prone to re-aggravation.

Adding to the team's injury woes, center Daniel Gafford sustained a right knee sprain during the Mavericks' game against the Sacramento Kings on February 10. He will be reevaluated in two weeks.

Davis suffered his injury on February 8, 2025, during his Mavericks debut against the Houston Rockets. Before exiting in the third quarter, he put on a dominant performance with 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks.

This news comes shortly after the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Davis. The Mavericks had high expectations for Davis to lead their playoff push, but his absence presents a significant challenge for the team's postseason hopes.
