Update: Head coach Kyle Shanahan canceled the 49ers' mandatory minicamp as a reward for the roster's perfect attendance during voluntary OTA workouts
The San Francisco 49ers enter mandatory minicamp with cautious optimism regarding several of their biggest stars. Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, and George Kittle are all progressing through recoveries from significant injuries suffered in 2025, while Isaac Guerendo remains sidelined after a recent pectoral tear. The health of those players could play a major role in San Francisco's outlook heading into training camp.
Nick Bosa - ACL
Bosa remains in rehab after suffering a torn ACL in Week 3 of the 2025 season, an injury that ended his year and cost him roughly 14 games. While he was present at 49ers OTAs, he did not participate in on-field work as he continues his recovery. The expectation is that Bosa will be ready for training camp, and all reports indicate he is progressing well while taking a cautious approach to his return.
Fred Warner - Ankle
Warner is expected to be fully cleared for mandatory minicamp and training camp as he continues his recovery from the severe right ankle fracture and dislocation that ended his 2025 season. The injury occurred in Week 6 against the Buccaneers. It required surgery shortly afterward, but all indications are that the star linebacker is on track to return without restrictions for the 2026 season.
George Kittle - Achilles
Kittle is working his way back from the Achilles tear he suffered during the Wild Card round of the playoffs, an injury that required surgery and ended his season. The veteran tight end also missed five games earlier in 2025 with a Grade 3 hamstring tear before returning in mid-October. Kittle's personal goal is to be fully recovered and ready for Week 1 of the 2026 season, though his progress will continue to be monitored throughout training camp.
Mykel Williams - ACL
Williams suffered a torn right ACL, as well as damage to the lateral meniscus, in Week 9 at MetLife. The rookie was beginning to show his upside before his season was cut short. The lateral meniscus complicates this injury and extends the recovery timeline, making Williams a likely PUP candidate to start the season, and we'll see how and when he returns.
Isaac Guerendo - Pec
Guerendo is recovering from a torn pectoral muscle that he suffered while lifting weights approximately one month ago. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said the young running back could be ready to return near the end of training camp, putting him on track to potentially be available for the start of the regular season.
