Tyler Herro Cleared for Basketball Activity, Return Imminent

The Miami Heat dropped Game 4 on Tuesday night, but still hold a 3-1 lead with the series heading back to Boston for Game 5.

Prior to the game, head coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters that Tyler Herro has been cleared for basketball activities but remains without a timetable for return.

As the Pro Basketball Docs have projected since his April 16 right hand fracture, Herro will be available by Game 1 of the NBA Finals at the latest.

He is currently just over four weeks removed from the surgery that promoted stable healing of his third and fourth metacarpal bones. After surgery, the team said Herro would miss at least six weeks but the Pro Basketball Docs were optimistic about a return sooner than that.

If the Celtics extend the series to a Game 6 or 7, Herro's return to the Eastern Conference Finals cannot be ruled out.

Given the fact his injury was to his hand, he's been able to workout and stay in aerobic shape

Miami has faired well without him, in part because of a big step forward by Caleb Martin, but Herro will undoubtedly have a role late in this series or in the next round.

The 23-year-old former No. 13 overall pick averaged 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists on 43.9% shooting from the field and 37.8% from 3 during the regular season. He also shot a career-best 93.4% from the free throw line.

Miami Heat NBA Finals Odds

Boston is favored by 8 points at home in Game 5 and the over/under is 215, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

The No. 8 seed Miami Heat are +390 to win the NBA Finals and -280 to move past the Celtics.

Denver is -210 to win the NBA Finals.
