Ben Simmons Injury: Why Calf Strain Likely Won't Keep Brooklyn Star Out Long

The Nets reported on Wednesday that all-star forward Ben Simmons will miss at least three games after he suffered a lateral left calf strain.

The 26-year-old suffered the apparent strain early in the second quarter on Monday night and was ruled out with what the team initially described as left knee soreness.

A lateral calf injury – meaning further away from the middle of the body – is less common that a medial injury but often takes less time to heal, according to the Pro Basketball Docs.

While his ultimate absence will depend on the severity of the strain, Simmons has a chance to return quickly.

After Brooklyn's win on Wednesday, the team will face the Raptors and Celtics – before the defensive dynamo is re-evaluated – followed by the Hornets, Hawks, and Pacers.

Simmons previously missed four games with left knee soreness and Brooklyn had a 4-10 record when he returned on Nov. 7.

The Nets have gone 8-5 since and Simmons averaged 13.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.6 steals on 7.6 shots per game in the seven games before his calf strain.
