LaMelo Ball Health, Injury Updates & History

Ball missed his first game of the season due to a right ankle issue on Sunday.

While Ball’s production when he’s on the court is strong, durability has been a recurring concern due to the ankle (and as of last season, wrist) issues. His many ankle injuries throughout his career finally culminated in him undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right ankle for an ankle impingement in March 2025. LaMelo Ball’s ceiling remains high, and the 2025-26 season could be a major turning point: either he solidifies himself as a durable, All-Star-level floor-leader, or his recurring injuries continue to limit his impact.

Will miss the rest of the regular season as Ball will undergo minor procedures to address ankle and wrist issues that have plagued him this season

Listed as a Game-Time decision for Wednesday Feb. 19th vs the Los Angeles Lakers when the NBA season resumes post All-Star break, Ball injured his right ankle before the break and it didn't appear serious enough to cause him to miss significant time but he does have an extensive history with ankle injuries so he will continue to be monitored

Will miss Wednesday's Feb. 12 game with a right ankle injury sustained on Monday, he will have the entire All-Star break to rest and recover before playing the Lakers on Feb. 19th

Is available Monday, Feb. 10th vs the Nets, he sat out Sunday, the first leg of a back-to-back and has been managing a tweak of his left ankle sustained vs the Lakers on Jan. 29th

Turned his left ankle while back pedaling after a made basket vs the lakers on Jan. 27th, he exited the game and did not return, LaMelo has an extensive history of ankle injuries, the most notable of those to his right ankle so he may have caught a break here, he’s been playing with ankle braces this season and his timetable to return has been undetermined at this time but he will continue to be monitored

Was diagnosed with a left calf strain and will miss at least two weeks, putting his return sometime around mid-December, he’s been having a career year and if he can remain healthy past Christmas could be an All-Star in February

Ball has been diagnosed with a right ankle sprain and is expected to miss extended time. Ball avoided a fracture in the ankle which required surgery last season and cautious approach is expected.

Suffered a fracture in his right ankle on a non-contact play Feb. 27 - fracture is on opposite side from his 3 previous sprains this season - will miss the remainder of the season but should recover fully for the start of 2023-24 season
