Quinn Ewers' Shoulder Sprain Expected to Keep QB Out 4-6

Texas five-star transfer quarterback Quinn Ewers suffered a left shoulder sprain on Saturday against Alabama, described by Steve Sarkisian as a clavicle sprain.

According to Ben Thamel of ESPN, Ewers suffered an SC joint sprain – the hinge connecting the clavicle and sternum – on Saturday and could miss between four and six weeks.

Quinn Ewers Injury Update

The College Football Docs initially believed that Ewers suffered an ac joint sprain – the joint connecting the clavicle and the cap of the shoulder – and could miss 2-to-3 weeks.

The key deciding factor on when he will return figures to be how quickly his pain dissipates.

Ewers is in “significant pain” and “basic acts such as breathing and swallowing” are exacerbating the pain, according to Thamel.

The 20-year-old gunslinger suffered the injury when he was driven into the ground by Alabama linebacker Dallas Turner at the end of the first quarter, drawing a roughing the passer penalty.

X-rays reportedly came back negative, but he was ruled out for the second half.

Drew Brees, who has noted experience with shoulder injuries, said on Instagram that Ewers just needed to “shoot it up” and wear a harness and he’d be able to return to the game.

Texas has the luxury of being able to rest Ewers and see a minimal drop-off at quarterback with Hudson Card.

Card, the fourth-ranked QB prospect in 2020, went 14-22 with 158 yards and took three sacks against No. 1 Alabama, keeping the Longhorns in the driver's seat until Bryce Young's heroics in the fourth quarter.
