Cam Akers' return from a torn Achilles tendon last July has been nothing short of remarkable. However, his return to play does not mean he is 100% and certainly does not mean the second-year running back is in the form he was during his rookie season. In four games since returning, Akers has rushed for 3 yards, 55 yards, 48 yards and 48 yards. His over/under for Super Bowl LVI is 65.5 rushing yards, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The Sports Injury Central team project that Akers won't surpass that total. The main difference between the pre-Achilles tear Akers and the post-Achilles tear Akers so far has been his lack of explosiveness, said ProFootballDoc, Dr. David Chao.In the playoffs, Akers has had no trouble getting gains when the blocking opens lanes for him, but he has not broken many big run plays because his right Achilles tendon is not back to full health, Chao said.Akers' longest rush in the playoffs was a 15-yard carry in the Wild Card win over the Cardinals. However, he did have a 40-yard reception in that game.Despite his limited success, he has averaged just 2.38 yards per carry over four games. In his rookie season, he averaged 4.3 yards per carry.Akers' rushing total is also complicated by the potential return of Darrell Henderson Jr. Henderson started the year as the lead back after Akers' injury, but hasn't played since suffering a Week 16 MCL sprain. For Super Bowl LVI, Akers has a SIC player health score of 75, while Henderson has an 88 and Sony Michel has an 86.Akers suffered a left shoulder AC joint sprain in the second quarter against the 49ers, but returned to finish the game. With the shoulder injury and the Achilles still recovering, ProFootballDoc ranks Akers as the Rams' least healthy running back right now.Henderson's MCL sprain has had ample time to heal and he should have full mobility if activated for the Super Bowl, Chao said.Head coach Sean McVay told reporters Monday he is optimistic about Henderson being activated for the Super Bowl and we expect him to be in the mix with Michel for carries. The Bengals have had trouble stopping the run since the loss of Larry Ogunjobi, but we expect the Rams the take a committee approach with their running back situation.
