When Can Ryan Tannehill Return From Ankle Surgery?

Tennessee Titans veteran quarterback Ryan Tannehill underwent a tightrope procedure this week on his high ankle sprain, but reportedly has an outside chance to return for a Week 18 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Tannehill’s tightrope procedure can provide more stability when he does return, but it does not speed up the healing process, according to the Pro Football Docs. If the Titans’ quarterback does return for Week 18, he will still have limited mobility and could require a pain-numbing injection to get through the game.

Despite his injury, Tannehill was able to return and finish the Week 15 loss to the Chargers. He suffered a less severe ankle sprain in Week 7 and returned to the game before missing the following two weeks.

The Titans (7-7) remain a half game ahead of the Jaguars in the AFC South and will have Malik Willis under center for his third career start.

The Jaguars face the Texans on the road in Week 17, then head to Jacksonville for a Week 18 showdown with the Nashville natives.

Willis’ first career start came in Week 8 against the Texans. He went 6 of 10 for 55 yards, an interception and 3 sacks while gaining 12 yards on 5 rushes. Tennessee won 17-10, as Derrick Henry rushed for his third-straight 200+ yard performance against the Texans.

Expect the Titans to feed Derrick Henry in Week 16 before a Thursday matchup with the Dallas Cowboys in Week 17.

Tannehill, a 6-year starter in Miami before joining the Titans, has thrown for 2,536 yards this season with 13 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.

Tennessee ranks 29th in passing yards, but have attempted the third least passing plays and the 12th most rushing plays.

Texans vs. Titans Week 16 Odds

The Titans are favored by 3.5 points against the Texans and the over/under is 35.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Through Week 15, our SIC staff is 50% on player props and 54% on live bets.

Tightrope surgery can provide stabilty but does not speed up healing. Unusual to be able to finish a game but still need surgery.
