The Saints saw two significant developments as they opened organized team activities, as incumbent starting quarterback Jameis Winston was active and in uniform and wide receiver Michael Thomas was present but inactive in New Orleans.
According to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.football, Thomas did not participate on at OTAs on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old did not play last season after undergoing surgery in June to repair his damaged left ankle.
That was the climax of a hectic year for Thomas, who broke off communication with the Saints during the offseason and later suffered a setback in November that derailed any hope of him returning to the field.
The Sports Injury Central Docs said earlier this month that they weren't impressed by video of Thomas running, specifically concerning his apparent laboring on the right side.
Thomas' quarterback, however, was a limited participant at practice for the first time since he underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL with associated MCL damage in his left knee.
He suffered the injury on Oct. 31 and was seen dancing on his crutches in the locker room later that night.
The Docs opined earlier this offseason before he was re-signed that he was progressing well towards being cleared and fully healthy by Week 1, and his participation today is another good sign that he is continuing down that path.
