Raheem Mostert season is now over with surgery looming although the implications may go deeper than that. Mostert has chosen the longterm solution, which could be good for him, instead of the eight-week absence that was originally reported. This is not the same surgery as fellow teammate Jeff Wilson Jr. had earlier in the offseason, in fact it is much worse than that. This seems to be an articular cartilage injury that involves the surface on the end of the bone which is precious and hard to regrow. We can’t tell you the type of procedure but his is likely having a variant of or micro-fracture cartilage repair regrowth surgery thus the 6 month minimum recovery timeline. The cartilage you regrow is never as good as the beginning. He is 29 now and will be 30 when he plays again. Mirco-fracture surgery is the beginning of a downhill slide meaning his knee will likely never be healthy again. We hate to be the bearer of bad news but this is not a good outlook long term for the Niners running back.
