Drake London, USC's highly regarded wide receiver, suffered as bad of an ankle injury as one can in his last college snap. The 20-year-old was rolled up on during a touchdown catch and run on Oct. 30 last year and suffered a right ankle fracture/dislocation, similar to the one Dak Prescott suffered just over a year earlier.London did not participate in drills at the Draft Combine and told reporters he feels about 85% on the injured ankle. He may be a longshot to workout at USC's Pro Day, on March 23, as well, said Dr. David Chao, ProFootballDoc.London will likely undergo another physical at the combine recheck in early April. If the ankle looks good at that physical, Chao said he doesn't anticipate London dropping much in the draft. He does project to be ready for the start of training camp and could likely participate in his new team's offseason program, Chao said.At 6-foot-5, 210 pounds, London presents an interesting mix of size and athleticism that has him projected as the No. 1 receiver in the draft.Despite playing just 8 games last season, he led the Pac-12 in receptions, yards, yards per game and was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year. He's unlikely to be limited by the ankle injury during his rookie season, Chao said.Jaylen Waddle, the former Alabama wideout who was drafted by the Dolphins at No. 6 overall last year, returned from a similar ankle injury for an excellent rookie season.Waddle suffered a right ankle fracture Oct. 24, 2020 and returned for limited action in the National Championship game on Jan. 11, 2021.That ankle injury didn't affect his draft stock much, if at all, and he turned in a 104-catch, 1,015-yard season for the Dolphins.Waddle's rookie year bodes well for London's success wherever he ends up, especially because London is more of a possession receiver, Chao said.London will likely be the first receiver off the board and presents an intriguing option for any NFL team in need of a big target.
