The Buccaneers are reportedly working on a long-term deal with star wide receiver Chris Godwin, but plan on franchise tagging him if no long-term deal is reached by Tuesday afternoon.Godwin and his agent will certainly be asking for full value, but the Buccaneers will likely be hesitant until they know his ACL is fully recoveredA long-term deal would give him the best course to return from his right knee ACL tear.Godwin suffered the injury on December 19 last season and underwent surgery on January 3.While no two ACL recovery is the same, ProFootballDoc, Dr. David Chao, has previously projected that Godwin is unlikely to be effective until the second half of next season. At just nine months since his surgery, Week 1 is likely a long shot for Godwin to be ready, Chao said.A long-term deal would alleviate the pressure for Godwin to return and perform well immediately.Given that he's an elusive wide receiver that relies heavily on his cutting ability on routes, don't expect to see the same effectiveness until late next season, if not the start of the following season, Chao said. That will mean more early season targets and focus on Mike Evans, while it remains to be seen who will be throwing the passes this season in Tampa Bay after Tom Brady's retirement.Godwin finished last season with 98 catches for 1,103 yards and 5 touchdowns in 14 games. His 98 catches ranked third in the league when he was injured.
