The worst possible outcome has come true as Travis Etienne will miss the 2021 season due to a Lisfranc sprain. There are different degrees of Lisfranc sprains, and even a fracture is a possibility but Etienne seems to have avoided a fracture. However, the ligament tear involved in the Lisfranc mid-foot joint seems to be significant enough for surgery, which would essentially mean the end of his season. If the Lisfranc ligament tears and the bones widen, it is best to do surgery for long term health of his career. The good news is the surgery has a reliable recovery and typically a four to six month timeline. It is possible he has a milder version and can recover quickly for a late season run, but with an IR placement before roster cuts, Etienne will spend his first season recovering.
