49ers running back Elijah Mitchell was ruled out for the game with a right knee injury after taking a direct blow from a Chicago defender early in the second quarter.
By video, Mitchell appeared to suffer an MCL sprain and is likely heading for a multi-week absence, according to the Pro Football Docs.
The second-year running back remained in for one more run then exited and was quickly ruled out.
Mitchell had 6 rushes for 41 yards before exiting with injury. Jeff Wilson Jr. will likely serve the starting running back if Mitchell misses time.
San Francisco plays Seattle at home in Week 2.
Mitchell missed three weeks last season after suffering a concussion and right knee injury against Seattle in Week 13.
He underwent surgery in the offseason, reportedly for a “clean-up.”
