Let’s get one thing straight: there is no “pain tolerance test” at the NFL Draft Combine.
No players are subjected to unnecessary pain and it is highly unlikely for a doctor to cause an injury during a physical examination, according to the Pro Football Docs.
The confusion began this weekend with a report about Florida offensive lineman Robert Gouraige developing swelling after his physical exam.
Gouraige was reportedly planning on doing all drills at the combine, but this new ankle injury prevented him from participating.
The only other instance of a player coming out of the physical exam with discomfort was Tyler Kroft in 2015.
However, in Kroft’s case he entered the combine with a lingering high-ankle sprain. While testing the injury and his recovery progress, it’s not impossible that doctors aggravated his ankle and caused more soreness.
This case with Gouraige is different because there was no documented ankle injury coming in.
Either way Gouraige will surely be healthy enough to perform at the team’s Pro Day on March 28.
#Florida OT Richard Gouraige came into the Combine healthy, but woke up with a swollen ankle after a pain tolerance test created an injury, sources say. He had been planning to do all drills, but now won’t be able to thanks to the situation caused during his medical exams.
