George Kittle heads into his 6th NFL season with a SIC Score of 94 heading into the 2022. Kittle is known for his bruising play style in the open field, and often times turns heads by how hard he is to bring down. While Kittle is an exhilarating player to watch on the field, his style of play tends to keep him off the field.
Last season Kittle dealt with various injuries, most notably a calf strain suffered Week 3 that caused him to miss three games. Kittle had this to say when asked about his injuries during last season in January.
“I’ve been dealing with shit since Week One… its football you just deal with it. And I’ll just say it was a lower-body injury. The NHL life.”
Kittle has spent a large portion of his NFL career on the sidelines due to injury. Through his five seasons in the league, he’s played in 36 of 49 possible games, clocking in a a lowly 73%.
Kittle is already dealing with injury problems at 49ers OTAs and team minicamp. Kittle missed all of OTAs and was a DNP for day one of team minicamp, although present at the facility.
Our panel of Pro Football Docs aren't concerned about Kittle’s lingering injuries since he has such a great tendency to play through. We at sicscore.com believe Kittle sitting out OTAs and minicamp are purely precautionary measures to keep Kittle healthy during their offseason program knowing that Kittle is an investment that the 49ers want to protect as much as possible.
Kittle remains an elite fantasy football option at the TE position, but hasn’t been able to recreate the magic that was his 2018 breakout season where he produced 1,377 receiving yards and five touchdowns. We expect another great year for Kittle for fantasy meaning the masses should feel comfortable drafting him as your TE1.
Kittle does come with a few uncertainties including his injury history and new starting QB Trey Lance raising questions about a possible decline in production this season. Although the 49ers are loaded with on offense with the likes of Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, expect Kittle to get his as long as he is suited up.
