Star big man Zion Williamson was shut down for an "extended period" by the Pelicans after recent imaging showed "regression in the bone healing of a fifth metatarsal," the team announced on Saturday.
This is yet another setback for the 3rd-year player, who has yet to play this season after suffering a right Jones fracture and subsequent surgery during the late offseason.
We will provide analysis from the Pro Basketball Doc team soon.
Williamson's rehab was dialed back on Dec. 2 after he reported experiencing soreness in the surgically-repaired foot.
Further questions surfaced after recent reporting exposed that the 6-foot-6 forward clocked in sometime during the offseason at 330 pounds, well above his normal playing weight of 285, and not ideal for recovery from foot surgery.
In his short career, Williamson has only played in 85 of 172 possible games with knee, thumb, and foot problems.
