WNBA Injury Report: Key Player Updates Week 1

Kahleah Copper (Phoenix Mercury)

She is a vital piece of the Phoenix Mercury’s plans this season, one of the league’s leading scorers last season. She will miss the first 4-6 weeks of the season after undergoing a successful left knee arthroscopy. The team will also miss Natasha Mack who is out with a back injury.

Rae Burrell (Los Angeles Sparks)

41 seconds into the new season, Rae Burrell went down with a right knee injury while contesting a jumpshot.  She had to be carried off the court but luckily avoided major injury and will miss 6-8 weeks. The team wasn’t specific as to the nature of the injury, but a full recovery is expected.

Sophie Cunningham (Indiana Fever)

Missed the season opener with a sprained right ankle, but should be back for the second game of the season on May 20 vs the Atlanta Dream. The Fever have a very balanced offensive attack with five players attempting 10 or more shots so Sophie should have plenty of scoring opportunities this season.

Rickea Jackson (Los Angeles Sparks)

Exited Sunday’s game with a head injury after a collision in the third quarter. She did not return in a blowout vs the Lynx. The team did not indicate any time will be missed, but she will be closely monitored as she is an important piece to the Sparks attack.
