Update: The Ravens listed Lamar Jackson as DOUBTFUL for Saturday's game. He did not practice all week
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson suffered a back injury during Sunday night’s Week 16 game and did not return after halftime.
Jackson exited the game before the break and was ultimately ruled out, leaving the Ravens to finish the contest without their starting quarterback. On Monday, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Jackson sustained a significant back contusion and is considered day-to-day.
The injury occurred after Jackson absorbed a hard blow to his lower back and flank area, a region that includes the oblique muscles, intercostals, and lower ribs. While the team has not indicated structural damage, the area is known to be extremely painful and can significantly limit twisting and throwing mechanics.
According to Dr. David Chao, Pro Football Doc, there is still considerable uncertainty surrounding Jackson’s availability for Week 17. “I don’t think Lamar knows yet, and I don’t think the Ravens know yet, so I don’t think we can be definitive at this point,” Chao said. “Will he be 100 percent? No — there’s no way.”
Baltimore is scheduled to face the Green Bay Packers on Saturday, and Chao cautioned that even if Jackson plays, pain is expected to be a factor. “Will he be feeling pain in his back and torso — oblique, intercostals, rib, low back? Yes, he will feel pain,” Chao said.
Chao added that Jackson’s ability to suit up could depend on pain management options, including a rib block or intercostal nerve block injection to reduce discomfort. Such treatment could allow him to play, but full effectiveness and mobility would still be in question.
Jackson’s status will be closely monitored throughout the week as the Baltimore Ravens prepare for a critical late-season matchup with playoff implications.
