If there is one team that is always in the news, it’s the Dallas Cowboys. No matter what they did, or didn’t do in free agency, “America's Team” is expected to be a Super Bowl contender and with Dak Prescott carrying a high SIC score of 93, the possibilities are endless.
For the Cowboys to be able to compete and come out of the NFC, they need a healthy Prescott. The 29-year old recently underwent left shoulder surgery, and coach Mike McCarthy called it a “clean-up” procedure.
It is likely he suffered the shoulder injury due to not stepping into his throws, and lack of offseason preparation last year. Prescott missed last preseason with a latissimus dorsi muscle strain on his throwing side.
Our team of ProFootballDocs believe Prescott, who is entering his 7th NFL season, is poised for a healthy year.
It will be his second full season since the traumatic comp fracture and dislocated right ankle suffered on Oct. 11 2020. The right ankle injury may still slightly affect his mobility, but not enough to be overly concerned about it. However, Prescott did only run for 146 yards on 48 rushing attempts last season.
In 2021 Prescott also suffered a left calf strain that lingered through the season, but it is not expected to hinder him in any way this upcoming season. In 16 games last season, even with the calf and shoulder ailments, the Mississippi State product threw for 4,449 yds, 37 TDs, 10 INTs and completed nearly 70% of his passes.
The Dallas Cowboys lost key pieces on offense this offseason, which includes G Connor Williams and WR Amari Cooper. These departures will add to the pressure put on Prescott, especially after the Cowboys surprising playoff loss last season to the San Francisco 49ers and him signing the massive contract last year.
The team did re-sign WR Michael Gallup who tore his ACL in January and drafted OL Tyler Smith in the 1st round of the NFL draft to help shore up the offense.
Prescott is undoubtedly the face of the offense with RB Ezekiel Elliot getting older, and WR Cooper now in Cleveland. Prescott will enter the 2022 season with heaps of pressure, high expectations and most importantly, no injury holding him back.
