The Dodgers announced that star right-handed starter Walker Buehler will undergo right elbow surgery next week and won't return this season.
Buehler suffered a right forearm flexor tendon strain during a start on June 11 and was placed on the 15-day IL with a 10-to-12 week recovery timeline.
The Pro Baseball Docs were pessimistic about his return timeline, as detailed when he went on IL.
He underwent surgery to remove a bone spur in the same elbow later that week, but the procedure wasn't expected to change his rehab timeline.
The Dodgers have provided few updates since the injury over two months ago.
The lanky all-star underwent Tommy John surgery in 2015 and said that he has suffered from on-and-off pain in his elbow since.
It is unclear if the surgery is related to his UCL or confined to his damaged flexor tendon.
If the surgery does involve the UCL, he will miss next season as well.
Los Angeles is currently without Clayton Kershaw, who suffered a low-back strain, but 24-year-old righty Dustin May is making his return from 2021 Tommy John surgery on Sunday.
