The Miami Dolphins released wide receiver Tyreek Hill, parting ways with the veteran after a season-ending knee injury derailed his 2025 campaign.
Hill dislocated his knee and tore his ACL in Week 4, missing the remainder of the season. He turns 32 in March and becomes a free agent for the first time in his 10-year NFL career.
The injury was significant from the outset. According to Pro Football Doc Dr. David Chao, the mechanism of injury raised immediate red flags beyond the ligament damage.
“His early-season injury was a knee dislocation, which immediately raised concern for nerve damage — specifically peroneal nerve palsy — based on video,” Chao said. “He appeared to show signs of nerve palsy when he was seen walking after his initial surgery.”
Chao added that Hill is reportedly expected to undergo another surgery and suggested the release could be tied to a failed physical designation, though that has not been officially specified by the team.
“He won’t be able to sign with another team until he can pass a physical, so it remains to be seen when that might happen,” Chao said. “He’s 31, and any significant knee injury — let alone a knee dislocation — falls into the career-threatening category for a player of his style. I certainly hope it’s not career-ending.”
Hill had been one of the league’s most explosive playmakers prior to the injury. Now, his NFL future depends not only on ACL recovery but also on nerve healing and clearance to return to play.
