Los Angeles Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow has been placed on the injured list with back spasms after exiting Tuesday’s start against the Houston Astros. The Dodgers were hoping to avoid an IL stint, but manager Dave Roberts said Glasnow’s absence is expected to be minimal. Roberts also said an MRI on Glasnow’s back showed “nothing really significant.”
Tyler Glasnow Back Injury
Glasnow left Tuesday’s start before the second inning because of low back pain. He told reporters he felt his back “gave out” during a warm-up throw. He tried to throw another pitch, but the discomfort did not improve.
Glasnow said he has dealt with this type of back pain since high school. Lower back pain caused Glasnow to miss a start in 2025 and it landed him on the IL in 2024. Roberts told reporters he has been aware that Glasnow’s back issues have been a recurring theme.
Dodgers Impact
Glasnow has been one of the Dodgers’ top starters in 2026, posting a 3-0 record with a 2.72 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 49 strikeouts. Even if the injury is not considered significant, Los Angeles will likely be cautious given Glasnow’s history of back issues and his importance to the rotation. The timing could work in the Dodgers favor with Blake Snell making his season debut on Saturday.
Glasnow’s MRI results are encouraging, and his IL stint is expected to be short. However, the recurring nature of his back spasms makes this worth monitoring. The key will be whether the issue settles quickly and allows him to return without another setback.
