(Update: Reports say Ward will not need surgery to repair his sprain right AC joint)

Cam Ward exited Sunday’s game in the first quarter after sustaining an injury to his throwing right shoulder and was subsequently ruled out.

However, by video, ProFootballDoc did express that the injury is not significant. Ward was evaluated on the sideline and later taken to the locker room, with the Titans ultimately turning to their backup quarterback.

This shoulder injury represents the most significant health concern of Ward’s rookie NFL season. While he has dealt with the typical physical wear and tear associated with playing behind an inconsistent offensive line, he had largely avoided major injuries prior to this game. Any issue involving the throwing shoulder is especially concerning for a young quarterback, and the medical staff is likely to err on the side of caution rather than risk long-term damage, especially with this being the final game of the season.

Ward’s rookie season has been a challenging one. Thrust into the starting role early, he has endured heavy pressure, frequent hits, and growing pains that have shown up in his statistics. Still, he has flashed the arm talent, mobility, and competitiveness that made him the top overall pick, even as the Titans have struggled to find consistency as a team.

With his immediate status uncertain, and the season over after this game, the focus now shifts to Ward’s recovery and long-term outlook rather than a single game. The shoulder injury is another reminder of the physical toll of his first NFL season, but his resilience and experience gained under difficult circumstances remain key positives as the Titans continue building around their rookie quarterback.
